The System Protection Technician works with and coordinates with many different departments to ensure all components in the power system work with each other to provide CPS Energy with the necessary infrastructure to provide reliable energy. Technicians in this position must have a strong working knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of various associated work groups and is ultimately responsible that these work groups have completed their work before any new or upgraded equipment is placed in service.

Large majority of the work is conducted in the field in high voltage up to kV substations and power plants, in all weather conditions, noisy and dusty environments, and at times under intense pressure or scrutiny during emergency or outage situations.

Use of PC equipment with standard and proprietary software, various types of test equipment, telephone, and calculator.
